Poetically Pink Surfboard: a 6'4'' by Italian fashion designer Pierpaolo Piccioli for clothing brand Zara | Photo: Zara

Italian designer Pierpaolo Piccioli, known for his emotionally charged and art-driven approach to fashion, has taken his creativity into unexpected waters – quite literally.

In collaboration with Spanish surfboard maker Pukas and Galician surf brand Vazva, Piccioli has designed his first-ever surfboard for Zara, the Poetically Pink Surfboard.

The result is a limited-edition piece that merges surf performance with poetic beauty: a satin-finish pink surfboard that’s as ready for waves as it is for an art gallery wall.

Piccioli’s design takes its cues from the Pukas Flying Diamond model, a performance-oriented board reworked with a fresh, sculptural eye.

Pukas describes it as “crafted with a touch of Magnetic Flying DNA,” meaning it balances technical precision with a fluid, lively ride.

The Flying Diamond shape features a medium rocker and a curved outline that enhance control and responsiveness in the water.

Its twin fin setup gives surfers that classic free-flowing glide, while the projected diamond tail adds both stability and speed through turns.

Perfect for a long, playful wave or a punchy beach break, it’s a board designed to perform, but it also carries Piccioli’s unmistakable sense of grace.

A Poem on the Sea

In true Piccioli style, the surfboard becomes more than equipment.

Across its delicate pink surface is inscribed a short Portuguese poem by Fernando Pessoa, whose verses speak to longing and transcendence:

“Quero, terei –
 Se não aqui,
Noutro lugar que inda não sei.
 Nada perdi.
 Tudo serei.”

“I want, I shall have –
If not here,
In another place I do not yet know.
I have lost nothing.
I shall be everything.”

The designer describes the sea as a place of introspection, stillness, and solitude – qualities mirrored in Pessoa’s words and in the board’s serene design.

Sustainability with a Soul

True to Piccioli’s humanist values, this collaboration also has a social and environmental purpose.

All profits from the collection will be donated to Women’s Earth Alliance, a non-profit that supports women’s leadership in protecting the planet.

Zara defines profit as the amount remaining after the costs of production and sales are deducted from the campaign items sold in each market.

The surfboard’s construction combines 90 percent polyurethane, 5 percent fiberglass, and 5 percent resin, ensuring a balance between strength, flexibility, and lightness.

The dimensions are as follows:

  • Height: 195.6 cm / 77.01 in
  • Width: 5 cm / 1.97 in
  • Thickness: 6.6 cm / 2.6 in

Each rare designer-meets-surfer crossover sells for $3,499.
